Hefei City Library is a state owned cultural institution that
collects, classifies, reserves and provides the press materials
for the reader. For HeFei City, it is the bibliotheca & literature
center, it is the information & network center as well as
the important window to spiritual culture.
Its predecessor was HeFei Country ZhongHe Library
established in 1923. In 1958, Hefei City Library was authorized
to set up, which covered 250 M², employed 3 persons and collected
10, 000 volumes. In 1968, it was merged into Culture Bureau. In
1973, it moved back to No.612 in MeiLing Road. A new office building
of 2,010 M² was built in 1974 and completed 4 years later.
On 29th, July, 1978 famous poet GuoMoruo wrote the name for Hefei
City Library.
Hefei City Library has the collection of 400,000 volumes.
In the field of social science, it covers local literature, person
biography, materials published in Hongkong &Taiwan District
and the photocopied newspaper printed before the Liberation, the
Imperial Collection of Four and Extended Imperial Collection of
Four are also collected; in the field of natural science, some
books are against architecture, light industry, electron, food,
medicine, farming and fishing.
In Hefei City Library, the Librarian is responsible
for everything and every person. The Library Administration includes
Office, Administrative Dept, Network Service Center, Classifying
Cataloging Dept, Guidance Dept, Reading Room, Circulation Dept,
Collection Dept and Information Service. Reading Room includes
Periodicals Reading Room and Newspaper Reading Room, both of which
are opened to the publication completely. With the card, the reader
can look over all the latest materials around the world. In Circulation
Dept, where the part-open system and close system are implemented
together, the reader can lend any of the books from 260,000 volumes.
With the OPAC system and catalog index, the reader can find the
needed book quickly and correctly, of course, the reader can make
a subscription. In Information Service, the reader can obtain
information, copy the document and compile the literature.
The endowment from JiaChengkuan, ShiYiming, ZhouZhongzheng
and SiJingyi add our collection. At present, our collection system
has already been into operation, our service quality has been
further improved. From content to form, in the past, the single
and simple borrow-lend system was applied while right now place,
title, and to-door service are provided. We also hold all kinds
of training, lecture and reading speech. There are two special
reading rooms for the children, where the children can not only
read what he wants to know but also participate in the reading
speech.
From the top to the bottom, the workers changed the traditional
service view, they cancel the rest weekend and supply the service
everyday, in other words, welcome to Hefei City Library everyday.
In 1998, under the Hefei Administration’s authorization,
Hefei City Library of 15,000M² was reconstructed with the
investment of 80,000,000RMB, which is a highlighted culture project
with the combination of Chinese and Western architecture style
in HeFei City. It locates along Amber Pond that is to the west
scenery of Circular City Park, equipped such an intelligent system
that you can gain a lot of services, in total, there are 1,600
kinds of magazine and 160 kinds of newspaper, 20 reading rooms
with 600 seats, 10 Dissertation Discussion Room and Multifunction
Meeting Room, and Academic Report Room equipped with simultaneous
interpretation system. We cooperate together with Chinese Digital
Library, Chinese Academic Magazine, WanFang Date to set up a database
with 2TB information for the citizens.
